Whippet
The greyhound Whippet is a canine breed of English origin. Its official name, according to the nomenclature of cynologique Fédération internationale, east Whippet. It derives from "whip it", which means "whip check!" or "go for it!" injunction that bettors throwing their favorites during races.
The Whippet greyhound is the most widespread in France. It is a very sensitive dog, very sweet and clean. History
It looks like the greyhound of Pharaoh and some claim it would probably have been introduced during the Roman conquest of England in 55 BC. J.-C.. The origin of the race seems rather go back to England from the fifteenth century.
Known since the seventeenth century in northern England, where it was used in place of Fox terrier for hunting hare, the race has been set at the end of the nineteenth, by providing blood terriers and small Greyhounds.

It has been recognized as such until 1899, after a serious selection from 1880.
