Flat land Anoa
The flat land Anoa (Bubalus depressicornis) is a community on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi Rinderart endemic. He is closely connected with the Nagorno-related Anoa, with whom he sometimes to a single species combined.
Characteristics
Flat land Anoas reach a head fuselage length of about 160 to 170 centimeters, a shoulder height of 70 to 106 centimetres and a weight of 150 kilograms (females) and 300 kilograms (male), and thus to include the smaller cattle species. Adult animals are almost hairless and have a black or brown color. They mostly have bright white fur forelimbs and drawing on the throat and face. Both sexes are 18 to 37 centimeters long horns with a triangular cross section. Of the mountain Anoas distinguished themselves through a long tail, the white coat drawings, and the long horns.
Way of life
Habitat of the flat land Anoas are located deep forests and wetlands. They live einzelgängerisch and embark mainly in the morning hours in search for food, while the rest of the day in dense vegetation. Their diet consists exclusively of plants.
The Gestation is 276 to 315 days, then brings the female a single pup to the world. Calves are initially a dense, gelbbraunes hair dress, while her youth fails. After six to nine months, the pups weaned and reach sexual maturity, with two to three years. The life expectancy of the animals is up to 20 years.
Threat
The hunting and the destruction of their habitat have led to a drastic decline in populations. The IUCN estimates the total population in 3000 to 5000 animals and lists the flat land Anoa as high risk (endangered).
