Origin and History
The Saluki, including Persian greyhound called, is part of the run and greyhound. It is a typical greyhound, as such by a muscular, lean physique concerned. The Saluki probably belongs to the very old greyhound races. He is originally from the Middle East, he probably also on Egyptian dogs, such as the Tesem back. For thousands of years, the race in their countries of origin under the same conditions, it is still the archetype. Probably the dog bears the name of the city Saluq disappeared. Originally, the Saluki for the gazelle-hunting and hare hunting bred. Good hunting Salukis are by the Muslims in contrast to other dogs, many because they are much food to purchase the family. In literature, the Saluki is therefore also a gift of Allah. The Arab Bedouins began breeding Salukis before the breeding of the famous Arabian horses. The Salukis are viewed as Familíenmitglieder and may even in the tents of their men sleep.

Description
Typical of these up to 70 cm large wind dog is known in shock, the long hair ( "Befederung") rounds, the rod and ears, all other body hair recently, in contrast to the so-called "smooth" or Kurzhaarsalukis, where the whole body, including tail and ears, short and uniformly smooth. Both forms are used in skin cream, black, chocolate (brown), red (with and without Ohrfransen black), black & tan / black and silver (black with loh / black with silver), fawn (rehfarben, sand), gescheckt, and tricolor grizzle all variations, with almost all varieties of color, with or without a mask. Even "white" Salukis are there, albeit rare, but they are on the Schecken to count, somewhere on the body as a dark spot can be found (so-called "Extremschecken"). For really pure Salukis are expected to mutations or otherwise extremely bright creams.
