Borzoi
Introduction
The Borzoi is a dog breed originating in Russia. The Federation Cynologique Internationale recognized under the name Rousskaya Psovaya Borzaya (psovaya borzaya meaning "quick dog hair long"). It is classified in Group 10 dogs, the greyhounds. It is also called greyhound greyhound Borzoi, or Russian.

Use: hound hunting, racing and pursuit on sight fallacy.

Description
It is a beautiful greyhound, tall, slender, elegant, aristocratic look. It has a harmonious conformation, size, a rich and beautiful fur colour, balanced proportions and graceful movements, it exudes an undeniable nobility.

Well trained, it is quick and endurance in the race. It can be dangerous in battle because it is powerful and courageous.

Its size ranges from 75 to 85 cm at the withers for males and 68 to 78 cm for females tourniquet. Its maintenance is limited to the strict minimum, for a dog at long hairs: a good brushing careful, once or twice a week is sufficient. No bath unnecessarily, except of course two days before an exhibition (so that the hair is particularly beautiful and natural) because it is de rigueur to present to a judge a dog in perfect condition.

History
The origins of Borzoi are distant and controversial.

It would be derived from crosses between different Asian greyhounds (originally Sloughi / tazi) and Laika, spitz-type dogs, long hairs, a native of northern Russia, used mainly for hunting and the trait. Other crossings are probably occurring in the future. But the selection made by farmers led to the creation of a race more or less homogeneous, from the late eighteenth century.

Most members of the Romanov dynasty and the Russian nobility earth have always loved and diligently practiced hunting with hounds, with Barzoïs, and possibly other greyhounds, and dogs currents. The Borzoi was high in packs quite distinct (color robes, kind of hair, the shape of warheads, sizes etc.). According to the tastes respective Breeders hunters. It was used for hunting hare, fox, but also wolf, deer or wild boar.

Hunters on horseback led the Barzoïs in 'svora' two or three (the word 'svora' means both the group of dogs that the long leather strap that holds). Immediately released at the sight of the game, Barzoïs were able to catch up to kill or detain.

The pack's most famous and arguably the most beautiful among all others whose history has withheld the name was undoubtedly that of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolayevich (1856-1929), created in 1887, on the field of Perchino (province Toula). Nikolai Nikolayevich was not only a great military career but also a passionate hunter and a breeder circumspect. We can also admit that, with respect to its crews hunting, he willingly took advice from his housekeeper, Dmitri Valtsov, author of a reference book devoted to Perchino ( "The Hunting of Perchino"), published in Russia, in 1913.

With the Russian Revolution of 1917, the Borzoi has almost completely disappeared from his home country. But many individuals previously exported - especially Perchino - in several countries in Europe and even the United States have helped to save the race.

The first mention of Borzoi, France, dates back to the early eleventh century: according to a chronic, Anne of Kiev, the daughter of Yaroslav the Wise, the Great Prince of Kiev, who married in a second marriage King Henry I, brought with it three greyhounds. She loved to chase runs.

The Borzoi was very fashionable in the company of the inter-war period.

Its iconography is extremely rich (paintings, bronzes, ceramics, porcelain, pictures, postcards, posters, photographs). Then he fell into a semi-oblivion after the Second World War.

Apart from the country where you can still hunt with greyhounds (Russian Federation, Eastern and the United States in particular), the Borzoi is primarily become a dog company, which also frequent and often cynodromes developed lots for prosecution on sight fallacy. Continued on sight dummy (fake leather game or plastic) - or PVL - is very appropriate to Borzoi because it allows him to satisfy his instincts fighter while showing his intelligence in runs.

Character
The Borzoi is a gentle animal, quiet, reserved - particularly with people he does not know. But this "sleeping water" can also hide a fiery temperament. Some subjects born, still very close to their ancestors hunters have more than others a fire inside that longing to fuser, throughout their lives. Any takers?: Live with a Borzoi is not always easy!

The Borzoi very strong and focuses exclusively to the same person and the student who occupies the most. But it is never bonded! It can be an excellent goalkeeper. It was sometimes impatient with children that the unrest will drive to flee or - we can not exclude it - to respond aggressively if it is really "pushed to the end". Very intelligent, and sometimes a stubborn mule, it requires some education with no detail, but an iron hand in a velvet glove. Because it is very sensitive and does not support the brutality.

To be balanced, the Borzoi adult needs to spend, to play and to run every day (note: the exercise of young Borzoi growth must be carefully modulated, until the age of about 12 months). At home, he likes the comfort and calm.

Health
If it is high adequately and if he lives under favorable conditions for its development, for its growth, the Borzoi is a strong and resilient animal. That said, his life expectancy is 13 years, rarely more. In general, females live longer than males.

Pathologies of frequent Borzoi, listed alphabetically:

* Various eye disorders, including retinopathy of Borzoi
* Cancers (bone, lung, prostate)
* Heart (among others: valvular dysplasia)
* Hypothyroidism (low thyroid)

* Spondylopathies (among others: Wobler syndrome
